For members
You’re a member. What now?
Congratulations! Here’s what you need to know now you’re in: how to shop, how shifts work, who to talk to about what, and how to lend a hand.
Where to start
FoodCoop BCN is a project we’ve built together, and it keeps growing with every member who joins in: a shift of 2-2.5 hours every 4 weeks, a bit more of your time in a working circle if you fancy it and, above all, ideas and energy. Suggest products and producers, and say so when you think something could be better: if you bring a solution with the criticism, we’ll get a lot further.

How your shift works
A shift is 2-2.5 hours every 4 weeks. It can be fixed or floating.
-
Fixed shift
The same day and time every 4 weeks. If you can’t make one, see what to do below.
-
Floating shift
You pick the day each cycle. Every 4 weeks the system takes one point off your balance, or two if it’s at 0 or below. So it pays to book shifts ahead: on the day the points are taken off, your balance needs to be +1 or more. You can check it in the member area.
If you can’t make your shift
Always let us know, and the sooner the better: with 24 hours’ notice you only have one shift to make up instead of two.
- Minimum notice
- 24 h Tell your shift coordinator. If you don’t have one, write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat.
- If you tell us in time
- 1 shift You’re marked ‘Absent, 1 make-up’ and have 4 weeks to make it up, at any other shift.
- If you don’t
- 2 shifts You’re marked ‘Absent, 2 make-ups’ and have 4 weeks to make up two.
I have a fixed shift and can’t make it. What do I do?
First, ask in the shift-swap group whether someone can swap with you. If you find someone, you take their shift and they take yours. You don’t need to tell the coordinator, but say you’re covering for someone when you arrive.
If you can’t find anyone, tell your shift coordinator at least 24 hours before. If you don’t have one, write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat.
The coordinator will mark you absent, and you’ll have one or two shifts to make up depending on whether you gave notice in time.
I booked a floating shift and can’t make it
Write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat at least 24 hours before. The shift is then deleted from the system and your balance stays as it was.
If you tell us later, you’re marked ‘Absent, 2 make-ups’ and the system takes one point off your balance.
I’m a coordinator and nobody else is coming to the shift

How can I help?
Got a bit of spare time, an idea or a contact? Here are some of the usual cases and where to take them.
I know social media and I’d like to lend a hand
Write to the communication circle, which looks after social media, outreach material and the co-op’s channels: comunicacio@foodcoopbcn.cat.
I’d like to present FoodCoop BCN to a group I belong to
Write to the communication circle (comunicacio@foodcoopbcn.cat) and tell them what you need to make the presentation work.
There’s a product I’d like to find in the shop and I haven’t seen it
Suggest it to the buying circle (compres@foodcoopbcn.cat). That’s where the range is chosen, following the buying criteria the assembly approved.
I know a local producer who’d be a good fit
Pass their details to the buying circle (compres@foodcoopbcn.cat). Producers, products and stock are all theirs to handle.
I have a question about my shift
Have a look at the shifts section on this page first. If you’re still stuck, write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat.
I have some spare time and don’t know how to help
Write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat and we’ll point you to the circle that needs you most. If you’d like to think it over first, ‘About us’ has the list of circles and working groups.
I have a concern or an idea and don’t know who to tell
Write to etpucajudar@foodcoopbcn.cat: we’ll answer it, or tell you who needs to hear it.
